This year Guyer Orchestra students got the opportunity to travel to Disneyland. This trip aimed to build new friendships and create a stronger bond between all the five orchestras that conform the program. It allowed them to play their instruments together and bring them closer as a group. This opportunity made people’s connections grow since they got to know one another on a personal level because they spent four days together. The Orchestra students said that the trip was a massive success and everyone had a great time. They can’t wait to do it again next year.
The Guyer Orchestra students expressed that this is a really amazing program to meet people that share a common passion for music. The students love to play everything they have been rehearsing and listen to the other orchestras play their pieces. In an interview with Senior orchestra students Antonella Echeverria, Ava Carson, and Madelyn Flahaven, they shared that they will miss the program because they have built many friendships and have learned extraordinary musical skills. They commented that the first time they played on stage during their freshman year was an exhilarating moment. They thought it was really fun to perform in a high school orchestra for the first time and learn new things, such as the value of teamwork and how to blend your sound with the rest of the orchestra. Seniors graduating from the program highly recommend students to join because it is an amazing community to be a part of.
The Disneyland trip was a great opportunity for the Seniors to wrap up their high school orchestra experience and leave on a good note. On their last night in California, they had a Senior night to celebrate their last moments together on the trip. Mrs. Hanlon and Mrs. Wright took the students to play mini golf, but the place happened to be the same location where the movie Karate Kid was filmed in 1984. The place even looked the same as it appeared in the movie. Overall, it was a great chance to get closer to each other and have a good time. The students loved riding rides, eating good food, and playing their instruments at Disney. The Seniors interviewed by the Journalism class have said that this trip was a great way to end the school year and remember orchestra as an amazing organization to be a part of.
The journalism class at Guyer got the opportunity to interview Senior Orchestra members to better understand their high school and orchestra experience. Antonella, said, “Being in the orchestra has been the most enriching part of High School, both academically and personally. I have grown into a dedicated and fulfilled person because of my instrument.” Madelyn added, “Overall being involved in the Guyer Orchestra has been amazing! I will forever cherish the memories I have made in the program.” Lastly, Ava Carson concluded, “Orchestra has shaped me into a more confident person who is willing to loudly make mistakes.”
These senior students believe that the Guyer Orchestra program is a great opportunity to make new friends and be a part of an amazing community. They also said that even with the advancement of technology, it will never compare to hearing a live orchestra play. The Seniors will greatly miss this organization and will hold on to all of the wonderful memories that they have made.
