Mr. Jensen has been passionately working at Guyer High School for over 15 years as an AP World History teacher. In AP world history, students work on a plethora of things. In class, they analyze documents from hundreds of years ago, write DBQ’s, and flesh out their vocabulary. Often, lectures are given for students to take notes. Other times, the class can prepare for an all-inclusive debate between controversial topics.
Mr. Jensen tries making his own lessons as much as possible, but it can be difficult with College Board’s strict restrictions. At every given opportunity he leads the students to explore and engage in what they are learning rather than just sitting around and listening. From the very beginning, he works on student’s writing skills and practices these abilities with them over and over. As the year goes on, more complexity is required, but the students always end up pulling through.
It’s safe to say that Mr. Jensen is an amazing teacher. “I absolutely love teaching, I actually look forward to coming to school each and every day,” he said. Students enter the classroom knowing nothing and leave with growing curiosity to learn more. “I read every writing. I love learning about my students’ personalities through their works.” he added.
Every year, students in AP classes have to take an exam assigned by the College Board. Doing good on the test will get students college credit, which basically means saving college tuition money. Students also get a sense of self-confidence from the fact that they accomplished a really hard challenge and tested themselves in such an intense matter. Mr. Jensen never doubts his students abilities even for a second, and feels they will do great on their AP World Exam this year. All in all, Mr. Jensen is a teacher full of passion. He teaches his classes with genuine enthusiasm, and creates a lively environment. It’s a place students can count on to learn and feel comfortable. With each passing generation shaping the future, education grows more and more important. “Never doubt that a small, thoughtful group of citizens can change the world. Indeed, they are the only thing that can.” – Mr. Jensen
