Guyer welding students participate in a creative welding experience by constructing various useful products.
Welders must stay safe while welding to have fun. When the Welding class is working, “We wear special equipment called PPE gear, which stands for personal protective equipment,” junior welder Will Mclaughlin said.
This equipment includes a welding hood for big projects or safety goggles with side shields for little projects. Welders must also wear gloves and cover up exposed skin in certain situations.
Welding is a creative art and you can get certified to work out of high school. “Honestly, I just wanted to get certified quickly,” Will Mclaughlin said.
Getting certified fast can start your career much earlier, make you better at welding, and help you start making money much earlier.
Welding isn’t only about making projects, even when you are a pro you still have a lot to learn. “A normal day consists of coming into class and learning about safety and how to operate things in the shop,” Will Mclaughlin said.
Even after using safety and welding equipment, there is still much to learn about welding.
Welding is a special kind of art. You are making things with your hands up close, and these are things that everyone uses every day. “Welding is fun, it’s very satisfying,” Will Mclaughlin said.
Welding is special work that you can practice, enjoy every day, and make a career and life out of it.
