Summer break is fast approaching for students at Guyer High School; The fun, freedom, and travel are soon to begin. Many students are very excited about this summer and what it is to bring for them.
“Summer break is significant to me because it’s a time to just relax and revive from the school year,” Hallie Barnard, a tenth grader, said.
For students, summer break gives them time to relax after a long school year. This in turn can help them recharge for the next to come in the fall. This can also improve their mental health and overall mood during the summer months. The time for themselves can help them feel better and more in tune with their bodies and emotions.

“I get really stressed out during the school year and by the end of the year I’m just done mentally so summer helps out a lot in feeling myself again,” Barnard added.
School can be extremely draining for a student with all the assignments and social pressures. But summer provides a way to rebound for the next year; a break for students to rejuvenate themselves. According to Meteamedia.org, “Summer break is the only time during the year when students can be kids without having to worry about how much stress they will be under after a week of freedom.”
“It brings back old memories. You bring back nostalgia. You get to see more, do more, and you just wanna make the most out of it, whether it’s family, friends, or just yourself to get a break,” Connor Ware, an eleventh grader, said.
Summer can provide time for students to hang out with friends and family more than they could before, or have some much-needed alone time. Child-Focus.org states, “You will discover so much about yourself when you aren’t distracted by other people!”

“It just gives off the certain feeling of living in the moment and enjoying the days as you want to live, not what you’re told to live,” Ware said.
Summer can be a time for students to put themselves first instead of a test coming up soon. They can destress and focus more on themselves and their hobbies instead of classes that take up their whole day. That much-needed self-care is what makes summer help with mental, and overall health.
” I believe summer break actually helps us physically because you’re getting out more. You’re going to more events and you can focus on more sports stuff,” Ware said.
Summer can be a great time for students to work on not only their mental health but physical health as well. The time to get out, play sports, or just take in the vitamin D can help with their overall health. According to Bayhealth.org, “From improved cardiovascular health, reduced stress, and increased muscle strength to greater weight loss summer weather has enormous health benefits.”
Summer not only provides students with a break from academics but also a time for them to focus on their needs and hobbies. This in turn can have many positive effects on their mental and physical health.
