Graduation day is one of the student’s most important and looked forward to events. It’s an inspiring day but very depressing and sad for some students. Staff and students look forward to the day of graduation, it marks the end of their public education and gives them multiple options as to what they would like to do with their lives. For most, it’s a day of celebration and happiness, however, you might see some students and staff in tears, overwhelmed with emotion and thoughts.
Students may lose friends and teachers, and some might be moving out and preparing for college. Because of this many students have mixed feelings, they are happy to graduate but sad about leaving friends and family.
Montana State University writer Louisa Hall states “As graduation day approaches, students are faced with an array of decisions. It is not uncommon for students to not only question their future path but also to ponder on the past years spent at previous schools”.
Staff may also be saddened to see students leaving and moving on with their lives, as many staff have good relationships with their students. Parents of students are, the most emotional when it comes to graduation, seeing their children graduate from high school, evokes many emotions, many are happy and proud to see their children starting new chapters in their lives and becoming adults, but most realize how quickly their children have grown up.
Everyone involved with graduation day has some type of emotion or reaction, whether it’s students, staff, parents, or even siblings getting emotional seeing their older brother or sister graduate from school. Some may even be jealous that their older siblings are done with school. Graduation day isn’t always the same every year, but the emotions are always the same, so raw, real, and heartfelt.
