With the fast growth of electronic waste, properly recycling lithium-ion battery-powered devices like phones, laptops, tablets, etc., or any rechargeable devices with lithium-ion or nickel metal hydride batteries can significantly reduce environmental harm.
Americans spend and discard millions, even trillions of dollars worth of electronics, so recycling them properly can help make a long-lasting, positive impact on the world.
Some positives of recycling these batteries include: lowering greenhouse gas emissions, improved safety, and supporting the economy. Making new batteries from recycled materials requires less energy than making brand new ones. Discarded lithium-ion batteries can be a fire hazard if they are not disposed of properly, so handing them over to professionals is beneficial to everyone. Recycling allows valuable materials to be constantly reused, which promotes sustainability and reduction of waste.
Redwood Materials, Pilot Knob Rotary Club, Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Grough (ESRAG), and the Guyer High School AP Environmental Science students along with Mrs. Riley will be collaborating on a lithium-ion battery collection event. The event will be held on April 19, 2025 at Guyer High School parking lot B from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Guyer Hicvpogh School Students also made a video, slogan, and an art piece to bring out the importance of this project:

The battery collection drive is after old lithium-ion and nickel metal hydride batteries as well as other rechargeable devices, so no need to bring new batteries. For a little competition, whoever brings the most batteries or devices will win a $100 Visa Gift Card, so make sure to come out and recycle!
