High School is a complicated time for students because it has so many ups and downs. It helps to look at the positive parts instead of the bad ones, like being with friends, learning things that interest you, and meeting new people. At Guyer High School, students have expressed that there are some parts of school they enjoy and some things they can’t stand. It is interesting to see how different students feel about parts of their days, and it could be beneficial for students to relate to each other.
Homework seems to be an irritating task of a student’s day, even though homework is important, students want to focus on after-school activities that they enjoy instead of working on more schoolwork. Freshman Hannah Grace shares her opinion, “School can be overwhelming sometimes when it comes to homework and grades, but I enjoy getting to talk to my friends during class and at lunch.” Many students say that School can be overwhelming, which can make students feel disinclined to come to school. Yale News says, “Nearly 75% of the students’ self-reported feelings related to school were negative.”
A positive part about school that many students seem to look forward to is spending time with friends and just talking with them. School can be very stressful at times, so when you finally get to talk with your friends, that is very rewarding. As well as being around your friends, Students have expressed that they need more breaks during school to do things they enjoy rather than classwork. Student Olivia Hernendez says, “I don’t like waking up early for school, but I do like getting to be around my friends in class.” As it seems to these students, friends are a big part of school and make students more inclined to come to school. The School Leader says, “Studies have shown that positive peer relationships can directly impact academic outcomes by creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable engaging and participating in class.”
It can be difficult to wake up in the morning and go to school, but as students say, there are some parts of their day that they look forward to. When it comes to school, many students don’t enjoy it, but there are some parts that they do enjoy that get them through the day and get them out of bed in the mornings.
