Carley Button, senior and varsity athlete at Guyer High School, is without a doubt the player to keep your eyes on this upcoming golf season. Under Coach Graham and Coach Simms’ guidance, Carley is returning for her fourth season with Guyer’s golf team and is predicted to turn heads. Her skill, positive attitude, focus, and determination are entirely unmatched.
The athlete’s approaching senior season is going to be completely devoted to improving. Carley is focusing on keeping her game consistent, lowering her average scores, and progressing as much as possible. In addition to this, Carley is looking forward to spending more time with her team as they have become a second family. The Guyer team has been fantastic at encouraging everyone and acts as a great support system. With the team by her side and the desire to enhance her skill, this season will surely be a huge success.
Carley has dedicated the past five years of her life to competitive golf. Throughout those years, she has made several appearances in different leagues, organizations, and tournaments outside of school. In fact, leading up to Guyer’s 2023 season, Carley has worked alongside the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), the Texas Junior Golf Association, the Legends Junior Tour, and North Texas PGA. In combination with these matches and tournaments, Carley also strengthens her skill by practicing six days a week.
This devotion to her sport will follow her into college as Carley has actually been selected as the first women’s golf member of Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU). Despite having a men’s golf team for many years, the upcoming 23’-24’ season will be the university’s debut of a women’s golf team. SOSU’s golf coach, Sydney Youngblood, reached out to Carley directly towards the end of the summer, and immediately a strong bond was formed between the two. In August, Coach Youngblood invited Carley to tour and explore everything the university has to offer. The overall experience was “really cool” and “felt personal” as the entire time she was one-on-one with the coach. Later that day, Carley received an official offer to play golf for SOSU, and about a week later, she verbally committed to the college.
Although being a student-athlete can become stressful, Carley loves the challenge of the sport and is excited to see what the future holds. Every golf fan at Guyer is cheering Carley on and can’t wait to see how her game advances.
