In the heart of our busy school, where the halls buzz with energy and noise, there’s a quiet corner in the library—a peaceful space for anyone who loves to explore new worlds through the magic of a good book. In this little sanctuary, you’ll find others who share your passion for literary adventures. What if I told you there’s a place where students just like you come together to read, share, and discuss their favorite stories? Welcome to the school Book Club.
The school’s book club is hosted by librarian Mrs. Marshall. There are meetings before school and after school for book clubs. It is a casual meeting with just a few fellow bookreaders reading the same book and discussing it.
“When someone first joins a student book club, we’ll introduce them to other book club members and just let them join the conversation! Book club is very relaxed and a good time to chat about books in general, even if a new member hasn’t read the book we are reading at the time. Next, we’ll make sure the student has a copy of the book we are reading and information about meeting dates and times. We also usually have snacks! ” Mrs. Marshall said.
At the start of the year, from September 19th to October 31st, the Guyer book club read two books: “The Selection” by Kiera Cass for the after-school book club, and “You Reached Sam” by Dustin Thao for the beginning of school book club.
The next book that lead up to the holiday break was ‘Five Survive’ by Holly Jackson for the morning book club. The afternoon club chose to talk about some of their favorite books instead of starting a new one with the short amount of time.
Be on the lookout for additional book club meet-ups for next semester. The book club will meet in January to choose its next book. If you are interested, stop by the library for more details.
