Jeremy Earnhart, Guyer’s new assistant band director, has made a big impact on the band.
Earnhart, a renowned individual in the music industry, has brought his experience from directing other bands, judging UIL, working with many marching bands and much more to help teach here at Guyer. His time here has already had the band improving drastically.
Earnhart came to Guyer through the head band director, Rob Myers offering him a job. They have worked together many times before, so Myers knew that he was perfect for the job.
“Last spring, pretty late in May, I heard from Mr. Myers,” Earnhart said. “He knew that I was doing some independent consulting at the time and just asked if I wanted to get back into teaching. I had been thinking about it… and I’m absolutely thrilled that it’s worked out as well as it has.”
Earnhart is also thoroughly enjoying his time at Guyer. The people around him are making him feel welcome here.
“[There are] Awesome kids, awesome faculty, awesome parents, and [an] awesome community,” Earnhart said.
He’s not the only one appreciating his new position here, either. The students in the band also like having Earnhart as their director.
“Dr. Earnhart is a really nice [and] funny guy, and I like his teaching,” freshman flute Bryna Martin said. “It definitely helps me want to get better.”
Earnhart’s 29 years in the music industry has assisted him with teaching the Guyer band.
“I’m just doing what I do but adapting it for this school and the experience that the students have brought with that,” Earnhart said.
Earnhart is also putting his experience and plans for next year into motion now to better the band ahead of time.
“I’m taking folks from where they are and getting them as far as they can, while also thinking about next year and what needs to be built so that we can do the things that we want to do next year, and so on and so forth,” Earnhart said. “We’re trying to build a program.”
Earnhart isn’t just directing the band, he’s also helping plan next year’s marching show. However, nothing about it can be shared until the end of the school year.
“[He’s] incredible,” Myers said. “We already have improved.”
And improvement has certainly been shown, as the band has done well at many competitions for marching and is currently working hard to prep for UIL contests.
The Guyer band has major successes in their future, and Earnhart’s arrival this year is helping them reach those successes.
“Band directing is hard, and you’ve gotta pace yourself. But, at the end of the day, you want to have high standards and make sure that everybody understands what the end goal is,” Earnhart said.
